SpokaneFAVS is an online nonprofit publication offering nonsecretarian news and commentary on religion, spirituality and ethics in the Inland Northwest. Originally part of a national organization in Connecticut, the local entity was established by Tracy Simmons, an award-winning journalist specializing in religion reporting, digital entrepreneurship and social journalism. Tracy recognized a need in this area because of Spokane's 500 churches and its proximity to Coeur d'Alene and Pullman. Today, approximately 50 local writers contribute their work. From the age of 15, Tracy knew she wanted to become a writer, but it wasn't until graduating from Eastern New Mexico University with a minor in religion that she knew what she would write about. "I loved my studies and felt there were misunderstandings that could be cleared if there was an outlet," said Tracy. Now, with 13 years of reporting on religion, Tracy established a fund at INWCF to provide opportunities for the public to make gifts in support of their work.
