When Dale Wilson and Alice Showalter married and began farming in Mondovi, Washington, they likely never imagined the legacy of scholarships they would one day create. With no children of their own, they established numerous scholarships to benefit area youth. One scholarship was created specifically to support those living in the Mondovi farming community and gives preference to the descendants of those who worked on their farm. Named the Dale Wilson / Mondovi Grange Scholarship Fund in 1982, it was the first scholarship fund established at INWCF. To distinguish this scholarship from other Dale Wilson scholarships and to recognize that the Wilson's farm included land that had been in his wife Alice Showalter's family for generations, the committee recently recommended a new name: The Wilson Farm / Mondovi Grange Scholarship. Applicants must be high school seniors or graduates from Mondovi Grange area, Lincoln County and Western Spokane County or be a direct descendant of someone previously employed by Dale D. Wilson, regardless of their current residence. Preference will be given to residents of East Lincoln County, especially the Mondovi area, and to those with direct kinship to people previously employed by Dale D. Wilson, regardless of their current residence. Other criteria for selection include financial need, academic achievement and good personal character. Recipients may reapply in subsequent years. Application is made through Scholarship America, December 1 - March 1. In addition to the Scholarship America Application, students must submit two references on the official Wilson Farm / Mondovi Grange Scholarship Reference Form. The reference form can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.
